Review on TRAINWRECK (Judd Apatow, 2015)

TRAINWRECK delivers a sensitive remark to the thought of monogamy and it hits right to your heart, as well as a little peek to Amy Schumer's life through physical comedy and relatable vulgar scenarios.

With the film directed by Judd Apatow and the screenplay penned by Schumer herself, the story follows the female Casanova, Amy Townsend (Amy Schumer herself) who can't seem to find love because of her belief on relationship and how it always fails, and her father's chants, “Monogamy isn’t realistic,” that she went through with her sister in their childhood years. But even with that background, her sister Kim (Brie Larson) is married and with kids.

In this film, Amy works at a trashy lifestyle magazine (which I believe a satire to a certain magazine) and is assigned by the boss (the unbelievably funny Tilda Swinton) to interview a sport doctor (Bill Hader). She falls madly in love to the doctor. And they embarks on a romantic journey only to face that relationship is no honeymoon forever. They face problems, and it's all downhill (kind of) from there. It's a cliche romantic comedy film, for sometimes.

But, what I like about this film is that the personal voice of Amy Schumer that are frank and imperfect. It shows a strong familial bond that is quite a rarity to other films these days. Amy leads us clumsily to some of her personal moments, untangles the sensitivity of family problems, and it sure does bring tears to my eyes.

The honesty of this film underlines the smartly funny and delicate screenwriting of Amy Schumer. And with the cast such as Bill Hader, Brie Larson, Colin Queen, John Cena, Tilda Swinton, Vanessa Bayer, and Lebron James stars as himself, along with the dynamic duo of Apatow and Schumer, this masterfully, funnily crafted film is obviously a blockbuster hit.
